Hi
I really enjoyed our first meeting of Write That Book Partners earlier this week. If you missed it there is a recording on the Facebook group.
https://www.facebook.com/michael.heppellpro/videos/218816777056149
Following our discussion I do have some exciting news…
Paul East has agreed to join us for a one-on-one ask me anything session live on January 13th at 6:30 pm. We can have him for an
hour!
This will be a great opportunity to discuss book marketing and especially how to sell through once your book has been published.
Thank you to everyone who agreed to add questions, ideas and thoughts. Most of these can be found on the Facebook group.
We’ve also actioned our first featured book in the Write That Bookshop (https://go.michaelheppell.com/write-that-bookshop) I thought the first one should be Jeannie’s brilliant Educated Pheasant Meets Mrs Prickles as it is a perfect Christmas gift. And she suggested it!
Vanessa very kindly took some notes and you can take a peep at them here.
WTB Partners meeting on 23rd November 2021 - Notes
Group 1
Jeannie – 2 things.
1. We’ve all done things in different ways / snippets of being an expert / between all of us we become 1 expert / share our own knowledge then we can help each other
2. People still struggling with FB or social media eg so with our own group we can help and support each other which is separate from the others. We’re further down the line so being able to support each other is
important.
Gillian – doesn’t know where to go next. Feels deeply out of depth. Overwhelming.
Group 2
Idiko – Have an Author Summit, where we all get highlighted. From this people can have bonuses, what the follow up is, to grow Tribe. Good way forward for everyone.
Richard Thomas – We can be running around like headless chickens.
No strategy.
We’re still learning.
Having a resource pool (a playbook) of what we’ve all done would be really good.
Sarah – re marketing, this is actually really difficult. 2nd book is more difficult to promote than a 1st. Helping to support so many people in so many groups, is overwhelming.
We’re being reactive but it’s not necessarily the right thing to be doing.
Group 3
Audrey – Echoing what everyone has said. Having a focus and distilling ideas – making sure marketing leads to sales.
How do we keep the early success feeling going.
Get specific advice from one another.
How can we get that deal?
If we get more specific and distilled support then we might have energy for others.
MH – how do we continue to sell
Ian Pilbeam – Diane is the only one who has a book deal. We have the talent – we need more.
Richard Thomas – I haven’t approached the media. Could we tap into that collectively?
MH – maybe bring in an expert so that we can have a direct Q and A with eg Paul East 1-to-1
Jeannie – This week’s featured book …. At top of ‘Bookshop’ we have a featured book
Eleanor / Ildiko – create a play book / like a network meeting / 2 people will do a 10 min presentation on a specific subject eg working with an illustrator, getting stuff into a local bookshop, talk about the pain, how do we
move on
Sally – Showcase with 2 people great idea but also use ‘Flipgrid’ and this could be pooled into a resource. How to do a video that’s engaging
Diane – Q and A session in FB
Vic – Can we curate videos so you can find and go straight to the info you want to.
Some of the info becomes buried. Do this with the alumni videos first.
Vic will coordinate this.
Ian – Submit a list what we’d like to learn about – so - Add to a post about what you want to learn
Eleonor – is going to make a post of what we can offer
Matt – is going to record a video on how to create a video on Canva
Sarah – tools for marketing up to next level is really important
Ildiko will do a tutorial on ‘Lumin 5’ to create a video
Sarah – would like to give MH support
MH – for higher end product we’re definitely going to set up an affiliate programme. There will be more Write That Book programmes and products in 2022
Featured Book to be set up by MH and Vanessa and then Matt will continue in 2022.
Next session January 13th 6.30pm
Be Brilliant
