I'm not talking about being a household name or a big shot celeb.

 

Building a Tribe is demonstrating to publishers and agents that readers are already interested in you and your work.

 

There are lots of exciting perks to building a tribe.

1 It's a great way to test your ideas. You could be writing in the morning. Find yourself stuck at lunchtime. Run a quick poll. And have your solution by teatime.

 

2 You make great acquaintances and, if you're lucky, friends for life.

People like people who are like themselves when somebody discovers someone with similar interests and learns that they are writing a book (being the authority), it's amazing how quickly that friendship can develop.

 

3 Ready Made Audience. And this is the best one, an instant audience of people who would like to buy your book.

 

Building a tribe is an essential skill for authors large and small, old and new. An ability that is simple but not easy.

 

But there’s no denying that it's a must not a should.
