I posted a newsletter on Thursday called ‘Words Change Worlds’.
I've had some lovely responses and feedback (if you didn’t see it, it’s here).
What surprised me, was people asking if it's true that for every one word I publish I rewrite or delete three?
No. The truth is … it's more.
In Write That Book I encourage members to ‘write shite’.
This isn't publishing shite.
There's a difference.
This is about doing the work. Developing ideas, finding your style and getting your project over the line.
Even the greatest authors go through multiple drafts before you read their work.
Editors identify gaping holes.
Proofreaders spot silly mistakes.
Writers fall in or out of love with their copy.
And that's the job.
Whether you're a full-time writer or an amateur author, the only way to get better is to work on the craft.
Just for fun, I'm keeping a log of all the words I write in July. The total versus the ones that are published.
I'm anticipating there will be quite a disparity. A lot of unpublished poop.
Would you like to join me in the Write Shite Challenge?
Just write every day in July.
It doesn't matter if it's good, bad or awfully average - just write.
Content, marketing messages, chapters, plot outlines - just write.
A new idea or the book you’ve been working on for ten years – just write.
