Hi
Authors are procrastinators.
See my mug? It says, ‘Writers aren’t procrastinating. We're thinking’.
Fun - but it is a challenge. How do
busy people find the time to write?
Actually, forget the ‘busy people’ how does anybody find the time to write?
Here are three ideas that have helped me.
1. Use a 17 Minute Sprint
This is where you set a timer for 17 minutes and all you do is write. There's something about 17 minutes which is long enough to get
something done, but short enough to fit in your busy day.
2. Make sure your writing space is always ready
By the time you've cleared some space at the table, opened your laptop, fired it up, found your notes, etc, it's almost time to stop.
Your TV is always ready. It's just one click on the remote. Maybe that’s why it wins? Make sure your writing space is set up with instant access. One click away so you can dive in easily.
3. Create a reward system for yourself
Procrastinators normally make a cup of tea or coffee and then start to work. Those who get stuff done reward themselves with a tea or coffee AFTER they have achieved something. Maybe you could only have that cuppa after
you've written 500 words?
The adage of ‘everyone has a book inside them’ maybe true.
Those who manage to get theirs out have one thing in common.
They write.
Every day.
Write That Book!
