Pricing books is a difficult science.
You don’t want to put readers off, but you do want to make a few pounds for your efforts.
How do you get it right?
I observe these three mistakes made time and time again.
Mistake
1
Most writers under charge for their books. It’s a confidence thing.
Authors who write specific technical books can charge hundreds per copy.
They know their worth and that those who read them are paying for the knowledge rather than the paper it’s printed on.
Something to think about?
Mistake 2
Many writers make the mistake of thinking their book is for everyone when the reality is it may only be for 1% of the population.
However, that 1% is still 670,000 in the UK
alone!
As a first time author I’d be happy with just 1% of the 1%.
I love these statistics as it shows you can target readers and (here’s the best bit) talk to them directly.
This is one of the techniques that we teach in Write That Book
Mistake 3
Not building and investing in your audience.
Without deposits in your reader's
emotional bank account, it’s difficult for them to part with even a few £ from their monetary bank account.
Getting it right, and knowing there’s a ready-made audience itching to buy your book, gives a wonderful feeling of confidence to a new
author.
I like teaching confidence building techniques like this, after all, confidence isn’t something you have, it's something you do.
You probably won't be selling your book for £100+ but I'm sure you could sell it for more than you think.
And I'd like to show you
how.
