DO YOU SUFFER FROM 'GLOSSOPHOBIA'?

What do you fear? I was recently researching fears and was surprised to see such a vast list ranging from the obvious, 'Claustrophobia' (the fear of confined spaces) to the strange, 'Phobophobia' (the fear off phobias) to the downright ridiculous, 'Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliphobia'
(the fear of long words!) However, the most common of all the fears is the one used in the subject line of this e-mail - 'Glossophobia'
.

If you haven't guessed it already I'll put you out of your misery, 'Glossophobia' is the fear of public speaking or 'stage fright' as it's more commonly known.

Public speaking is the single most common fear affecting 75% of people. In top ten lists it out-ranks fears of heights, spiders, confined spaces and even death!

Its funny how two simple words 'public speaking' can strike fear in even the most confident, prepared and knowledgeable people. It has the potential to reduce anyone into a mumbling, quivering wreck.
So have you ever suffered from 'Glossophobia'?

Have you ever had that gut-wrenching feeling when you stand up in front of a group of people and completely forget what you were going to say even though you know the subject matter inside out?

Or perhaps you can't sleep the night before a big presentation, you have an increased heart rate, shake and sweat during it and your relief to finish is more important than whether you've done a good job. Does any of this sound familiar?

Let's turn this whole scenario on its head. Imagine you have an important presentation coming up with senior managers. Now imagine that the outcome of this impacts your own career success. How would you want to feel?
  • Would you like to be totally confident with your presentation?
  • Would you like to be completely nerve-free so you can concentrate on the matter in hand?
  • Would you like to overcome negative thoughts and be absolutely focused on getting a positive outcome?
  • Would you want to come across as assured, professional and in control?
  • Would you like to see public speaking as an opportunity and not a chore?
I defy anybody to say 'no' to any of these options! After all, who says 'no' to belief, respect and ultimately, success?

So if you could be turned into a brilliant public speaker in just half-a-day would you be interested? Of course! Well here is the opportunity.

Come and join Michael on his 'How to be a Super Speaker' course on Tuesday 3rd June. It's an intensive course held in a comfortable and intimate environment, where you will learn the methods and techniques for becoming a brilliant speaker. How to be a Super Speaker is a half day training programme, delivered by Michael Heppell, designed to give you all the tools you need to deliver brilliant presentations that leave your audience wanting more.

Questions you'll probably have spinning around in your head:

Who's it for?

How to be a Super Speaker is designed mainly for people who have to present to groups from 10 - 10,000. Most of the techniques are designed to present to small audiences (because that's where most people present) but Michael does share some big stage strategies too.

What will participants learn?

The session is in three parts. First you'll learn the 7 steps you should use when planning and delivering every presentation. Next you'll learn some of the 'tricks of the trade' which Michael has learned from some of the best speakers in the world. Then it's your turn, you'll put what you have learned into practice and prepare a short presentation and a lucky few will even get a chance to present!

I lack confidence in speaking, will this help?

YES! In fact most people who attend a Super Speaker course list increased confidence as the number 1 tool they take away.
