24TH NOVEMBER, 2009

Unless you've been hiding under a stone for the last couple of weeks, you'll have noticed that two 'lucky' ticket holders have won the largest prize in British lottery history.  I hope it brings them all the happiness in the world.

Money will enable them to do many things they couldn't do before - I hope those things make them happier.

Money will allow them to buy things they could only have dreamed of - I hope those things make them happier.

Money is just energy; it flows in, flows out and will magnify whatever and whoever you are.

I hope the winners were already nice, happy, generous people and the money magnifies those qualities.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before but I am also a lottery winner. Of all the billions of people on the planet I married the only person I could ever imagine spending the rest of my life with. I also won the lottery with two kids who make me proud (and worry the living daylights out of me) every day. Then there was the other major lottery win when I made a career out of speaking for a living. It's a pleasure to do something I love so much for my job.

Looking at life (and without trying to be too syrupy) we've all won the lottery in one way or another. You woke up this morning and had food in your belly - you won. You'll go home and sleep in a warm bed tonight - you've won. If you're reading this - you've won. And if you are happy, you're the holder of a triple rollover, euro billion super jackpot-winning ticket! Congratulations! Now what will you do with your winnings?

Hello Michael

Could you recommend any of your books for teenagers?

Yours

Caroline

Dear Caroline

Our feedback tells us teenagers love How to Be Brilliant as it's very easy to read.  When I wrote Brilliant Life I had an idea that families might find uses for it as a reference book.

Be Brilliant!

Dear Michael

I love my best friend but she's becoming more and more negative about everything.  I've tried to make her more positive but she seems stuck on the downward spiral. How can I change her?

Thank you

Debra

Hi Debra

You can't! Unless of course she wants to change, it could be she's fulfilling one of her needs by being negative.  For instance, it's often the case that negative people get more attention.  What you can do is make more a fuss when she's positive rather than trying to 'fix it' for her.

I'm sending you a copy of my new book Flip It, which has a great chapter on Flipping It with friends and family. You'll particularly like the 'friends grid' idea, which offers a no nonsense solution to your predicament.

Be Brilliant!

Michael
