I'm passionate about customer service. So much so I wrote a book about it. In fact, now I travel the world challenging audiences about their levels of service!

Consider this. Think about the last time you went to a hotel, restaurant, shop, pub - wherever - and received a bad service experience.  Slow service, a rude assistant or dirty room.

Perhaps that's put you off using that business again? Maybe you had a moan to a friend (more likely than telling the culprit). Either which way, everyone has a story to tell about bad customer service.

Now flip the coin and think of a truly brilliant customer service experience you had. Not good but brilliant! A super attentive assistant, a reward for your loyalty or a genuinely thoughtful understanding of a special need or request. How did that make you feel? I bet their organisation went rapidly up in your estimations.

Customer service is all around. Consciously and subconsciously you make snap judgements everyday based on your experience. If you have a brilliant experience the rewards for the person providing that service are obvious.

So here's the big question. What are you doing to make sure your customers are receiving 5 Star Service? Are you maximising your opportunity to create a loyal customer for life?

This week sees the release of the Second Edition of '5 Star Service' my best-selling book on customer service. The book is the culmination of many years spent observing and studying both brilliant and poor customer service. In 50 packed chapters it brings together all the tools and techniques you need that are proven to build your organisations 5 Star standards without breaking the bank.

In a nutshell if you want to improve all aspects of customer service where you work then this is a must read.
