I received an interesting idea on Twitter the other day. It was from Paul McIntyre and read: "@MichaelHeppell idea for book/chapter. WHY be Brilliant." What a great question. Here I am travelling the world sharing with people How to Be Brilliant without answering a fundamental question of why you should be brilliant in the first place. - Isn't average easier? - Surely standard is simpler? - Wouldn't just being normal be enough? The answer to all of those questions takes me back to when I first started this journey with this realisation... Doing a good job won't give you good results. And once you grasp this you understand the odds are stacked against you. Why? If you've seen me present 'How to Brilliant Live' you'll remember the model I use to show Brilliance Benchmarking. You'll recall that doing a good job often brings poor results and even doing a fantastic job can bring you just good results. I believe what Paul is asking is... Why? Think about it like this. There are millions of people who want to do a good job. However, it's so crowded in this arena it's not surprising you don't get noticed. So you step up and start to do a fantastic job. The good news is there are less people here - a lot less. You get noticed - but you don't get the rewards - yet. Why? Here's the big wakeup call for 2011 and beyond. People are expecting more (they want to pay less), they want it all and they want it NOW! Being fantastic might get you recognized but it can be incredibly frustrating when you don't get the rewards you deserve - but by being brilliant you will. Why? When you make the last step up to being brilliant you may only move a fraction but you become invaluable. Your creativity adds more value. You're rewards v's effort become disproportionate (in a good way!) You feel amazing. People make comments about what you do and how effortlessly you seem to do it. You find more energy. You become more focused. You discover clarity in your vision where previously the future looked blurred. So if you like the idea of those benefits and a dozen more then that's the WHY in 'Why Be Brilliant'. |

I think my book 'How to Have a Brilliant Life' is the best book I've written. It's almost twice the size of my other books and packed with ideas on how to live a Brilliant balanced life. A new second edition has been published today. Brilliant Life uses The Wheel of Life technique to break down life into eight key areas. They are broken down further to ensure you have a laser focus on the areas where you need help. Here's what readers have said about Brilliant Life: 'This book really has changed my life; if you are struggling with your business, relationships, home life, health or family then this book is for you.
