I've become addicted

I've become addicted. It's most nights now. Usually I'm with others but recently I've found myself fulfilling my craving alone. Yes my name is Michael Heppell and I am addicted... to Scrabble.

It all started so innocently, a bit of fun really. You know, just to pass the time with mates. But soon I found myself thinking about it when my mind should have been somewhere else.

I tried to get support and went online looking for help. But be warned, for every one 'help site' there are a hundred others who fuel your addiction. ScrabbleCheat.com, WordFinder.org and a whole bunch of others, including one which lists every word using Q without U. There are 33 by the way.

However, during this addiction I have learnt some valuable lessons. Lessons I'd like to share with you now.

Brace yourself for a barrage of clichés here... Scrabble is a bit like life.

Sometimes you get lots of great letters, other times you don't.

It's not really what you're given that's important, it's what you do with it.

It's easy to blame bad letters for a poor game.

It's easy to blame others, circumstances or bad luck for a poor life.

Sometimes there's so much choice it's all about getting the best score.

Then there are times when you struggle to play a single word. But play you must.  There's always the next turn.

There are times in life when it just doesn't look good. But do what you can with what you've got and you will move forward.

Sometimes your opponent places a word you've never heard of and you may think that's not fair.

But there's always someone who knows more than you. Don't become jealous use some of their knowledge.

Yes, playing Scrabble is a bit like life and I'm proud to say I'm addicted to life too.

Be Brilliant!

Michael
