We all have problems. Life is full of them.
Some say problems are a gift.
I’m not sure I subscribe to that, but what I do know is we have choices over how we handle our problems.
You can bitch and moan about the hand you’ve been dealt or you can do your
best to accept or change it.
If you choose to accept you’re better than most.
If you choose to change you can do it better with some problem-punching
tools.
And experience is a great tool.
I had a quality problem on Sunday.
In a feature in the Mail on Sunday Magazine Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox described my book How to Be Brilliant as her ‘bible’ (you can see a
pic here).
Of course it sold out on Amazon and in book-shops immediately - you can still download it though :)
Then on the same day, Davina McCall tweeted her 2.2 million followers, saying Sara Cox had just reminded her what a great book How to Be Brilliant is, and that it had helped her too.
She also very kindly included a link to the Amazon page. The same Amazon page which was now saying ‘Out of stock’ -
available in 9-11 days.
In a perfect world, I would have known in advance about the piece in the Mail on Sunday. But Sara didn’t even know if they would mention the book never mind add a picture.
And in a super-perfect world, Davina would have tweeted a few days later so that shops and online retailers would have a chance to re-stock.
But life’s not like that.
So we chose to celebrate a ‘quality problem’, because experience has shown me that selling too many copies of your book is a lot better than not selling enough.
The exact same thing happened with Chris Evans and
Flip it a few years ago. If you haven’t heard that story then click here.
We’re heading into the festive season. One thing is certain. You WILL have problems to deal with; some big, some small, some quality.
When they happen, tap into one of the most powerful tools you have - your
experience.
Be Brilliant!
