Do you remember that restaurant that used
to be good but had to close as your kids were saying their school dinners were
better?
Or what about the band you loved
who produced your favourite hits but now sound like an East German experimental
act?
Why do good things fade?
Often it’s because they lose heart.
The chef who was happy to work 18 hours a
day to establish her restaurant now finds it a drag.
The band who lived in a transit van, played
gig after gig and pooled their savings for studio time, now have a record label
demanding a pay back.
There’s an old saying about finding a job
doing something you love and you’ll never have have to ‘work’ again.
That’s only true if you stay in love with
your job.
And like any relationship sometimes it
needs to be rekindled and the fires stoked.
Here are three things you can do to stay in
love with, or fall in love with your passion.
1) Remember your ‘why’. Who
benefits? Think about your customer - what do you do for them and how can you
make their life better?
2) Find the best in your business
and hang out with them for a bit. I bet the chef would feel re-ignited if she
spent some time with the superstars of her industry.
3) It may be time to move on and fall
in love with something else. You’re at work for a third of your life. If you
don’t love it, don’t do it.
If you’re reading this at work and you love
it, can’t believe you’re getting paid to do what you do and feel super excited
about your future that’s brilliant
If not, why not? And what will you do to get
your spark back?
Be Brilliant!
