Just before Christmas I hosted an event where a management team reviewed their 90 Days Of Massive Action projects and declared their goals for 2020.
One said something that really struck a chord.
‘You know when you get a new car; how well you look after it? That’s how I’m looking after this training.’
It’s the same when you receive anything new. Just check out anyone with a new phone: constant polishing, removing every spec or finger mark.
Then one day the polishing stops.
Finger marks stay.
Dirt can wait another week.
Why do we stop?
It’s the same with new knowledge. At first, it’s shiny and new, you can’t wait to use and test it. Then it can stop being so exciting and like the finger smudges, you can go back to your old ways.
Here are five ideas to keep your personal development shiny and new:
1) Reread your old books. You’ll be amazed at what you’ve forgotten and what you’re keen to reignite.
2) Set up an accountability buddy. You can let yourself down, but don’t you dare let your buddy down! If you've been to one of my longer How To Be Brilliant events, you’ll have an

3) Make a public declaration. If you’re planning on doing something amazing in 2020, tell lots of people. It may just spur you on.
4) Engage a coach. It could be the best investment you ever make.
