Hi
This information will only affect you if you intend to travel by train between Kings Cross and Peterborough from the
17th to the 20th of February.
Happy New Year. To welcome in 2024 good old Network Rail has decided to carry out ‘planned maintenance’ between Peterborough and Kings Cross from the 17th to the 20th of February 🙄.
There are replacement rail, bus services and
re-routes available. Being a seasoned rail traveller, I thought it would be worthwhile sharing some options of what I would do if I found myself making this journey.
Although Kings Cross services aren’t available, it is possible to travel via London St. Pancras. I’d advise that you search for a journey using the term ‘London Terminals’ rather than ‘London Kings Cross’.
The St. Pancras trains go to Derby where you would change onto a direct train to Durham. I appreciate this makes the journey a bit longer. With the change, it’s marginally better than getting the bus replacement from/to Peterborough (via Bedford). Check prices though.
Some other thoughts/options.
Drive to Peterborough and leave your car in the long-term parking. You can pre-book a space there.
Fly from Heathrow to Newcastle and get the train from the airport to Durham. You can do this with only one change.
I’m
sorry if this information affects you; it looks like in the worst case it will add around 90 minutes to a journey, but we want you at DAY17 feeling fabulous and heading home buzzing about the brilliant event.
In the next few weeks we will be sending you more detailed information about DAY17
Durham and the exciting day we have planned.
Be Brilliant!
