Tuesday was International Men’s Day.
It’s about recognising issues that often go unnoticed, like the importance of male role models and breaking down stereotypes that limit what men - and women - can achieve.
Men are often taught to suppress emotions, told to ‘man up’ and are introduced to the patriarchy at an ever early age, but that kind of thinking limits connection and growth.
Today is a chance to challenge those ideas and promote healthier, more positive behaviours.
On
Monday, my weekly live was on the subject of International Men’s Day - not reinforcing stereotypes, but challenging them.
You can watch the full video
here.
This was my list:
1. Listen Deeply - Real men listen - not just with their ears but with their
hearts.
2. Show Vulnerability - Real men know it takes strength to admit when they’re
struggling and to ask for help.
3. Support Equality - Real men champion fairness and lift others, challenging
injustice.
4. Laugh at Themselves - Real men don’t take themselves too seriously and can find humour in their own
mistakes.
5. Take Responsibility - Real men own their actions, admit mistakes, and work to make things right.
6. Ask for Directions - Real men aren’t afraid to seek guidance to find the best path forward.
7. Aren’t Afraid to Cry - Real men embrace their emotions and show them without shame.
8. Do Thoughtful Little Things - Real men show care through small gestures, like making a cup of tea or putting toothpaste on their partner’s brush.
9. Forgive and Let Go of Ego - Real men embrace EGLE (Every Great Lesson Eventually), letting go of
grudges and keep ego in check.
10. Prioritise Mental Health - Real men take care of their mental well-being and encourage others to do the
same.
11. Be Present - Real men give their full attention to loved ones and focus on what truly matters.
12. Lead with Kindness - Real men inspire through empathy and compassion, not authority.
13. Practise Self-Care and Look After Health - Real men prioritise their well-being, including regular check-ups and seeking advice for prostate or testicular health.
14. Applaud Quiet Strength - Real men recognise that strength isn’t being loud - it’s often in resilience and perseverance. They also admire how women excel at this and learn from their
example.
15. Love Fiercely - Real men love their partners, children, and friends unapologetically and wholeheartedly. They aren’t afraid to say,
‘I love you’ and mean it.
16. Be Humble and Confident - Real men know the difference between confidence and arrogance. They exude quiet, intense
confidence while staying grounded.
17. Challenge the Patriarchy - Real men understand the importance of dismantling patriarchal systems,
recognising that women often bear the brunt of inequality.
What else should be on there?
I’d love to know your ideas. Please leave them here.
Be Brilliant!
