I’m 58 today,
and just for fun, I thought I would share 58 lessons I’ve learned.
- People don’t remember what you say, they remember how you made them feel.
- Don’t wait for motivation to start. Start; you’ll feel the motivation.
- Great service isn’t extra, it is the job.
- Most problems shrink after a walk.
- The shortest distance between two people is a smile.
- Decide quickly, correct kindly.
- Write like you’re talking to your smartest friend in the pub.
- As energy is contagious, create the good
kind.
- Say hello to strangers.
- Everything tastes better with Magpie Chilli Crisp.
- Sleep for a minimum of 8 hours.
- The fastest way to feel better is to help another.
- Most people aren’t thinking about
you; they’re thinking about themselves.
- The right words, at the right time, can change (even save) a life.
- You don’t have to attend every argument you’re invited to.
- Celebrate small wins (SWins), they compound.
- Kindness beats cleverness.
- If you ask better questions, you’ll get better answers.
- Never trust someone who can’t laugh at themself.
- Discipline is just remembering what you really want.
- If it’s not a big YES, it’s a polite no.
- Worry is a misuse of
imagination.
- ‘Done’ beats ‘perfect’.
- Time with children is time with magic.
- Buy two of your favourite t-shirt - future you will be grateful.
- Stick googly eyes on boring things.
- Everyone needs more
stories.
- The best compliments are specific.
- Never underestimate the power of please and thank you.
- Momentum beats motivation.
- Comparison is creativity’s assassin.
- A brilliant day starts the night
before.
- Never trust a man whose eyebrows are surprised when he’s not.
- Learn names and use them often .
- Every ‘overnight success’ took years.
- The best leaders go last in the buffet queue.
- Don’t confuse being busy with being brilliant.
- Always clap first - it creates a success culture.
- Surprise someone with a postcard.
- Most people don’t want advice. They want compliments in disguise.
- Most emails don’t need
replying to (or sending).
- Be interested above interesting.
- Confidence grows through actions, not affirmations.
- No one ever got fit talking about exercise.
- Regret is worse than failure.
- Get good at endings,
they’re what’s remembered.
- Ask yourself, ‘Will this matter in 5 years?’
- You don’t need a new idea, just better execution.
- Laughter is life’s lubricant.
- Invest in good shoes, pillows & chairs - stuff that holds you up.
- Speak like every word counts.
- If you don’t make the decision, the decision is made for you.
- Don’t take advice from people who aren’t living how you want to live.
- Full on is fantastic, but gentle rest is best.
- Most of the magic
happens just after you feel like giving up.
- Start before you’re ready.
- Show up with joy - it disarms critics.
- Choose to Be Brilliant at the 3 things that are the most important to you.
